I want to be a __________ wife. How do you fill in the blank?
Loving? Faithful? Romantic? How about fruitful?
The book The Fruitful Wife: Cultivating a Love Only God Can Produce by Hayley DiMarco calls wives to be fruitful by not relying on their own strength and abilities, but rather by abiding in Christ for fruitfulness in our marriages. DiMarco walks through each fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) showing the reader the biblical significance of each fruit and how each plays an important role in the life of a wife.
The author wrote this book because there are a lot of women who struggle on being who God calls them to be and want to bear the fruit in their marriages, allowing God to teach and mold their attitudes and actions.
The book is written mostly to wives, not mattering whether they are newlyweds or have been married for years.
This book was very helpful for me. It allowed me to have a time of reflection on areas where I knew the Spirit has been calling my attention. The more I read the more I felt convicted. DiMarco is able to connect to our lives through her personal stories and experiences. The chapter on gentleness really opened my mind to see that a gentle spirit doesn’t accuse God, fight with him, or complain about the things He has allowed.
One of the questions that challenged me was how many times do we complain about the things God has allowed? If we react with God by complaining, how will that flesh itself out in our relationship with our husbands? How will that hinder our being faithful helpers to them?
This book is one that I will refer back as I allow God to work in me at different seasons. I pray God will use it to encourage you toward a more faithful and fruitful marriage as you walk with Christ filled by His Spirit.
