Anchored in Christ Monthly (March 2024)

Howdy newcomers to the Anchored in Christ newsletter! 👋 Every month I send out a newsletter post that shares the best articles, free resources, and what I’m reading. If you find it helpful, send it to a friend and invite them to subscribe.

A Thought

The book of Revelation is notoriously challenging to read. But it doesn’t have to be. A helpful tip for reading the book is to consider the original audience. The Apostle John wrote Revelation to encourage the embattled first-century church. That means that when Revelation was read aloud to the churches (Revelation 1:3), everyday believers—without advanced theology degrees or fancy interpretations—were expected to understand and apply the message as God intended. If they could hear and keep that message back then, so can we today.

A three-minute video showing what life in the womb looks like from fertilization to birth. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Also sad to see many pro-abortion people are fighting from this video being seen. Why wouldn’t we want people to know how life is made?

What I’m Reading

My five-year-old and I have loved all of the Good News for Little Hearts books from New Growth Press. Christian counseling + adorable animals = winning combination!

Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren’t Growing Up by Abigail Shrier. Really interesting and eye opening, although I see how some see it as somewhat problematic.

The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11. I first heard of the 9/11 attacks that day as a sophomore in high school. A class clown ran in our classroom and said to turn the TV on because people were swan diving out of the World Trade center in New York. I had no idea what that meant. As my Spanish teacher turned the TV on, we soon knew. And my teacher with tears in his eyes said that our lives would forever change that day. That being said, The Only Plane in the Sky is a powerful, powerful book. It helped me experience the horrors of the infamous day with the people who lived (and died) through it. It made me want to hug my family that much tighter and pray unceasingly for the return of Jesus. It also made me thankful for the brave and selfless souls that sacrificed themselves to save others. If you’re going to read this book, listen to the audiobook for the real clips from that fateful day and 45 different voice actors.

My friend David Kaywood has a new book out and I’m excited to read it! A Call to Contentment: Pursuing Godly Satisfaction in Restless World
