Anchored in Christ

I remember my first coffee date with my wife in 2012 like it was yesterday. At a large Starbucks, my wife sat across a table from me and told me about her passion for ministry to young girls. I didn’t understand it all at the time, but did admire her for her desire and determination to bear fruit for the Lord in ways He has uniquely gifted her.

Since that day eleven years ago, I’ve had a front row seat to see how God has used my wife and helped her do the hard work of building the ministry God put on her heart, Maker Girls By Design. Maker Girls By Design is an official 501c3 non-profit that ministers to at-risk girls from public schools in our community aged second grade to high school. Our mission is to teach girls emotional skills, life skills, and the love of Jesus through clubs and mentoring.

My wife ensures that the gospel is shared every club meeting as God’s Word is opened. Participants also learn to deal with anxiety in healthy ways and develop career readiness skills. Girls really love the club, and it’s common for us to hear from them or their parents how girls have changed and have a hunger for God and His Word. It’s also encouraging to see how girls who age-out of the club ask to come back because they love it so much!

Our church (The Orchard Evangelical Free Church) recently made video highlighting God’s work in my wife through Maker Girls By Design, and you can watch that below.

In addition to continuing our existing ministry, Maker Girls By Design is on the cusp of some exciting new projects like:

• Opening a new club in a storefront location (graciously offered to us by a friend of the ministry)
• Establishing curriculum (something critical for future expansion)
• Building our team of leaders and directors for future clubs
