We live in truly privileged times in terms of the amount of free resources available to teach us the Bible in the English language.
While I’m trying to listen to less podcasts overall, I always like to have resources to help me get into God’s Word and meditate on it. Below you’ll find three solid podcast recommendations to help you get into God’s Word.
- Read the Bible – The Gospel Coalition
The official description: “Read the Bible features devotional commentaries from D.A. Carson’s book For the Love of God (vol. 1) that follow the M’Cheyne Bible reading plan. This podcast is designed to be used alongside TGC’s Read The Bible initiative.”
Podcast episodes are about three minutes each and you can read the text as well on the podcast page. I read through both volumes of Carson’s For the Love of God several years ago with my small group and greatly appreciated it. I also enjoyed following the M’Cheyne reading plan, although I don’t use it currently—it can be hard to keep up with!
Here’s January 1’s meditation on Genesis 1:
- Into the Word with Paul Carter (of The Gospel Coalition – Canada)
Pastor Paul Carter created this podcast when he realized many in his congregation could use a little teaching to go with their daily Bible reading. Carter informally teaches through one chapter of the Bible per episode and works his way through entire books. Episodes range from about 12 minutes to 21. I appreciate slowly working through a whole book of the Bible and have enjoyed going through Hosea on this podcast.
Here’s the episode on Revelation 21 (or play it here):
- In the Word, On the Go with Champ Thornton
Sometimes my wife and I crave good Bible teaching but don’t have time (or energy!) for a forty minute sermon. (Most sermons in Spanish are even longer!) That’s why I appreciate this podcast hosted by Champ Thornton. The format is simple: Thornton takes ten minutes to interview a guest on one of their favorite Bible verses or passages.
