How Loving Are You? Take the One-Minute 1 Corinthians 13 Love Test

How loving are you?

The little exercise below based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 should reveal to you how you are doing at fulfilling the second Great Commandment of loving your neighbor as yourself.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

The Test

Read the section below and insert your name in the blanks.

How truthful does it sound? Which areas do you need to work on?

_______ is patient, _______is kind. _______ does not envy, _______ does not boast, _______ is not proud.  _______ does not dishonor others, _______ is not self-seeking, _______ is not easily angered, _______ keeps no record of wrongs.  _______ does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  _______ always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

When I read through this passage, I realize that I often fall short of the 1 Corinthians 13 standard. The true secret of transformation is not trying to change on my own, but beholding the love of God shown to us in Jesus Christ.

Now, read through the passage again and fill in the blanks with Jesus. Meditating on the example of Christ and praying for God to transform you in His grace will give you the power you need to live a more loving life and follow Christ’s command to all of His disciples:

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:34
