Anchored in Christ

Another election season has come and gone, this one with much more consternation and vitriol than the rest of the elections I’ve been alive for combined.

While fear may continue for some, it shouldn’t paralyze the children of God—we have too many glorious promises and facts to hold on to:

1. We can trust that the new president, just like all presidents before and all that will follow, has been instituted by God (Romans 13:1).
2. God will work this presidency and everything it impacts for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
3. This president, like all rulers and authorities, is ‘nothing’ and ’emptiness’ compared to our Sovereign Creator God (Isaiah 40:23).
4. God is our strength and refuge, a very present help in trouble—even when the mountains fall into the heart of the sea (Psalm 46:1–2).
5. Christ will still have all rule and authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).
6. Christ will be with His people until the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
7. Christ will build his church and the gates of hell won’t prevail (Matthew 16:18).
8. God will bless his children when persecuted in His name (Matthew 5:10–12).
9. God will still hear and answer prayers of those who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18).
10. The Holy Spirit will still indwell believers, testify of God’s love for us, and strengthen us to persevere during trials (Romans 8:15–16).
11. If this president opposes the Lord and His Christ, God won’t panic—He will laugh and hold them in derision (Psalm 2:1–4).
12. Christians will still be called to pray for those in authority (for their salvation, proper governing, and that we may live quiet and peaceful lives) (1 Timothy 2:1–6).
13. This president will at best be a footnote in history of the story that tells the glorious story of God’s gracious offer of salvation in Jesus Christ.

These truths aren’t up for a vote—they are sealed with Christ’s blood and exist to set our gaze and worship on Almighty God.
