Courage in the Face of Evil: The Story of Sophie Scholl [Full Movie]

Christians need to hear stories of courageous believers. That’s why we have the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11 and the great cloud of witnesses encourage us as we faithfully run the race of the Christian life.

Last week, The Gospel Coalition published an amazing story of two courageous siblings: Hans and Sophie Scholl. The Scholl siblings, motivated by their Christian faith, stood up to Hitler’s Third Reich by writing and distributing anti-Nazi pamphlets—an action that cost them their lives.

I encourage you to read their story or watch the 2005 two-hour film Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (with English subtitles) free below. (It is Not Rated but I would imagine it’s not a kid-friendly movie.)

I will never forget years ago hearing Erwin Lutzer share of how some World War II-era German churches neglected their duty to stand to the Nazis. When their church service was interrupted by the sound of trains carrying prisoners to concentration camps passing by, the church’s response was just to sing louder—as if simply pretending evil doesn’t exist makes it disappear.

May the Lord give us courage like Hans and Sophie Scholl had to stand up to the evils of today—even if they come in culturally-acceptable and well-marketed packages.
