One surprising lesson I learned from writing When Prayer Is Struggle is that often the simple tools for prayer are most helpful at overcoming the obstacles we face.

The free worksheet I share below is a simple but profoundly helpful tool to help you organize your prayers.[1] The first row focuses on Scriptures to begin your prayers[2], then moves to prayer for yourself and intercession for others in a variety of categories.

My friend Mike, a deacon at a campus of our church, uses this method, and when he finishes with the worksheet, he folds it in half and tucks it into his Bible. So easy!

I’m convinced that spending five or ten minutes setting up a simple system for prayer has the potential to both change your prayer life and the world.

As I share in my book’s chapter on organization, interceding for others “is like sowing seeds. We don’t know when the seeds will germinate and cause a new plant to grow. We don’t know when those plants will produce and release their own seeds. We don’t know what will become of each seed. But just as one single seed could eventually produce an entire forest, one single prayer could change a life, a nation, or the course of human history. The question is, what will you do about it?”

[1] This worksheet flows from chapter seven of the book titled “I’m So Unorganized.” In the chapter I make the case for intentionally organizing prayer requests so that you can bring a variety of requests to God consistently. Perhaps after using this worksheet you’ll agree with author and pastor’s wife Megan Hill who said, “The thing that’s been most helpful to me in my personal prayer life is to be organized.”

[2] If you’d like some Scriptures to consider for the first row, I suggest foundational Scriptures like Matthew 6:9–13; Exodus 20:1–17; Psalm 1:3, 37:4; Matthew 22:37–40; John 15:1–7; Ephesians 1:15–23; Romans 12:1–2; 1 Corinthians 13:4–7.
