17 Old Testament Messianic Prophecies Fulfilled by Jesus Christ in the New Testament [Infographic]

The Bible is one book that was written over a thousand years by different authors that share the same story of God saving sinners through Jesus Christ. The Old Testament features hundreds of prophecies about Jesus that have been fulfilled in His first coming, and some that will be fulfilled in His second coming.

The infographic below shares 17 messianic prophecies from the Old Testament that have been fulfilled by Jesus Christ and described in the New Testament. (For your convenience, I copied the references and Bible verses below.)

Prophecies about Jesus Christ’s Life

Born of a Virgin

  • “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
  • “The Birth of Jesus Christ Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18

Born in Bethlehem

  • “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.” Micah 5:2
  • “The Visit of the Wise Men Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem…” Matthew 2:1

Famed for Wisdom

  • “And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.” Isaiah 11:2
  • “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52

Lived a Sinless Life

  • “And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.” Isaiah 53:9
  • “He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.” 1 Peter 2:22

Healed the Needy

  • “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert…” Isaiah 35:5-6
  • “…the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.” Matthew 11:5

Preached the Good News

  • “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…” Isaiah 61:1
  • “…the poor have good news preached to them.” Matthew 11:5

Entered Jerusalem in Triumph

  • “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9
  • And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Mark 11:7-9

Prophecies about Jesus Christ’s Death and Resurrection

Betrayed by a Friend

  • “Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.” Psalm 41:9
  • Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them.” Mark 14:10

Sold for Thirty Pieces of Silver

  • “Then I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver.” Zechariah 11:12
  • “…and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.” Matthew 26:15

Silent When Accused

  • “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth;
    like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.” Isaiah 53:7
  • “And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.” But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.” Mark 15:4-5

Beaten and Spat Upon

  • I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.” Isaiah 50:6
  • And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows.” Mark 14:65

Crucified with Sinners

  • “…because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12
  • And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.” Mark 15:27

His Side Pierced

  • “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.” Zechariah 12:10
  • But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.” John 19:34

Buried with the Rich

  • And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.” Isaiah 53:9
  • When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away.” Matthew 27:57-60

Rose from the Dead

  • For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.” Psalm 16:10
  • And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.” Mark 16:6

Ascended into Heaven

  • “You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.” Psalm 68:18
  • So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.” Mark 16:19

Exalted at God’s Right Hand

  • The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”” Psalm 110:1
  • “…who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.” 1 Peter 3:22
