Paul Alexander shared a few of the best commentaries on Jeremiah for preachers in our conversation on Preaching the Book of Jeremiah. Listen to the full interview on YouTube.
1. Jeremiah (Bible Speaks Today) by Derek Kidner – for a clear, concise, and applied commentary.
2. Jeremiah (Tyndale Old Testament Commentary Series) by R.K. Harrison – for a really good commentary on historical and introductory matters.
3. Jeremiah and Lamentations (Preaching the Word) by Dr. Phil Ryken – for reading a really good sermon that can model for you how to preach the prophets. You’ll have a hard time finding a better commentary for homiletics, preaching, and application. It’s a big commentary but worth it.
4. Jeremiah and Lamentations (New American Commentary Series) by F.B Huey – for a solid, understandable exegesis of the text. It’s concise, accurate, and refreshingly applicable.
