My Top 10 Books of 2013

If you follow this blog and haven’t noticed already…I have a news flash for you: I like to read.

I read for a variety of reasons: to deepen my understanding of God and His Word, to deepen the pool of knowledge from which my brain thinks, to serve the church by being able to recommend (and give) great books to others, and because I enjoy reading!

After reading several dozen books this year, here are my top ten books of the year in no particular order. This list is of my top 10 books that aren’t the Bible (there’s always a smart aleck out there ;)). That will always be my #1 and will continue to be the world’s best-seller!

The Poverty of Nations by Wayne Grudem and Barry Asmus (read my review)

Counterfeit Gods by Tim Keller
(Read A Prayer for Christians on Social Media based on The Next Story)
The Trellis and the Vine by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne
See a complete list from 2013.
Honorable Mentions:
Crazy Busy by Kevin DeYoung (see a few quotes from Crazy Busy)
The Conviction to Lead by Albert Mohler (read my review)
The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller

What’s on tap for next year? So far I have a few ideas:

  • The Institutes of Christian Religion by John Calvin
  • Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J.I. Packer
  • Knowing God by J.I. Packer
  • God and Government by Charles Colson
  • Letters to My Students by Charles Spurgeon
  • Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath
  • The Power of Full Engagement by Tony Schwartz
  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Goodwin
  • Several books from Paul Tripp, Tim Keller, C.S. Lewis

What was the best book you read of 2013? What are you planning on for 2014?

Kevin
