The recent terror attacks in Paris and in San Bernadino, California have left many people in this world—and Christians—fearful and despairing of life. I’m thankful my pastor Colin Smith (@PastorColinS) preached the sermon linked below called “How to Overcome Your Fears” from 1 Peter 3:8-17. He focuses much of his time unpacking 1 Peter 3:14-15’s words:
Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord.

Much of the sermon hinges on the answers to two questions:
Q: Why Are There So Many Fearful Christians?
A: Because the Self-Exalting Spirit of the World Has So Widely Permeated the Church
Q: How Can Christians Overcome Our Fears?
A: In Your Hearts, Honor Christ the Lord.
The freedom from fear that a believer under the Lordship of Christ enjoys is beautifully expressed in the Heidelberg catechism:
Q: What is your only comfort in life and in death?
A: That I am not my own, but belong – body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ… He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven.
May this sermon help you overcome your fear by strengthening your hope and love for the Lord Jesus Christ!
