Heavenly Father,
You know the pain I’m going through. You know how long this suffering has weighed on me. I need Your help, not only to persevere, but to keep my eyes on You. This trial seems pointless, but I know You have a purpose even if I can’t see it. You’re too wise, powerful, and good to waste anything that could be for my good and Your glory.
Don’t let me pass through this trial without learning every lesson you want to teach me and without receiving every blessing You want to give me. Guide me in Your Word to see Your mercy and grace even in suffering. In the end, I want to say with the Psalmist, “It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.”
I know that even in suffering my sin can rear its ugly head (I’m sure it already has). Help me put to death the sins of selfishness, anger, unbelief, and despair by the power of Your Spirit. Sanctify me. Humble me. Make me more dependent, more content in Christ, and more dedicated to pray “Your will be done” with every breath.
So many who suffer become a burden to others around them. Protect me from that! I want to bless others and be an example of faith, hope, and love. I want my suffering to make others love and trust Jesus more.
Lead me into Your perfect peace and comforting presence. I need Your supernatural strength to go on and to honor You in this suffering. Please provide what I lack.
Cause this trial to deepen my communion with my suffering Savior as I await an eternity free of suffering and full of joy in Your presence.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
