D.A. Carson’s Lectures on the Book of Hebrews

Trinity Evangelical Divinity School recently has uploaded several classroom lectures by Research Professor and theologian D.A. Carson speaking on the book of Hebrews as a part of the Acts, Pauline and General Epistles class.

Having sat through these lectures, I can say they were very helpful for me in understanding how the Old Testament is quoted by New Testament writers, understanding difficult “falling away” passages in the book of Hebrews (like Hebrews 6:4-6), and understanding the overall argumentation of the author of Hebrews.

I hope they are an encouragement to you in your study of Scripture, in your overall understanding of the Bible, and in your understanding of the supremacy of Christ in and over everything.

In these four lectures, Dr. Carson covers the basic questions involved in interpreting Hebrews such as authorship, date of composition, and intended audience, as well as covering its content and focusing in particular on major themes of Christology. Hebrews is unique in the New Testament in its explanation of Christ’s high priestly work and its extended application of Yom Kippur imagery to Jesus’ death and resurrection. Dr. Carson highlights the unique, once-for-all quality of Jesus’ sacrificial death as presented by Hebrews as well as the reality of Christ’s ongoing high priestly ministry on behalf of believers.
